Not Dead Yet
Why being against Assisted Dying is important for disabled people including people with learning difficulties.
Who we are
- An informal network of disabled people who do not want Assisted Dying to be allowed
- Jane Campbell is the person who leads our network
What is Assisted Dying?
- Doctors will be able to give people drugs that will kill them
- At the moment anyone who helps someone to kill themselves can be sent to prison
Who is for Assisted Dying?
- A group of people called “Dignity in Dying”
- They used to be called the “Voluntary Euthanasia Society”
Why are we against Assisted Dying?
- We are not against people being able to choose to kill themselves
- We are against making “helping” someone to kill themselves legal
Why are we against Assisted Dying?
People may “choose” to die for a lot of reasons that are not really their choice:
- They think they are a “burden”
- Someone who has power over them persuades them it is what they want
- They have not got the support they need to live independently
Why are we against Assisted Dying?
If an Assisted Dying Act becomes law we believe it will only be a first step towards:
- euthanasia - people being able to make decisions for us not even pretending it is our choice or even
- eugenics – people deciding people like us should not exist as part of society, and killing us before we are born or in life
