Training for Groups

TrainingEasy Read information is used in all of these training courses and they are fully accessible and interactive, including role-plays. Courses can also be tailor-made and the length can be adjusted to suit your needs – just contact us for more information.

Self Advocacy (1 day)
What is Self Advocacy? What is the history of Self Advocacy? Ways to speak up and how to set up a group.

User Led (1 day)
Why it is important that people with learning difficulties are in charge of their own groups, what makes a group user led and independent.

Sexuality (1 day)
Looking at people with learning difficulties right to have sexual relationships. Safer sex, same-sex relationships and treating Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transsexual people fairly.

Disability Equality (1 day)
The social model of disability and how it affects people with learning difficulties.

Management Committee/Trustees Roles and Responsibilities (2 days)
This covers the legal responsibilities of trustees plus the roles of committee members, the differences between the work of the committee and speaking up/self advocacy group and practical ideas on how to hold elections and ways of holding meetings.  A lot of training courses run by other organisations on this subject are not accessible to people with learning difficulties.

Writing a Constitution (1 day)
What is a constitution? Why groups need to have one, what goes in one, what are ‘articles and memoranda’ for companies limited by guarantee?

Recruitment (1 day)
How to employ staff, equal opportunities, putting together job descriptions and person specifications, interviewing and making recruitment accessible.

Good Support and Challenging Supporters (½ day)
Role plays to practise challenging supporters which can be difficult. Looking at what good support is and the responsibilities of the person being supported.

Equal Opportunities (1 day)
What is equal opportunities, about discrimination, how organisations and groups can follow equal opportunities, understanding about being fair to different groups of people.

Strategic and Financial Planning (2 days)
Accessible introduction to big picture planning for a group, including business plans, fundraising and SMART targets.

Campaigning (1 day)
Why it is important to stand up for our rights, different ways of campaigning, how to campaign and who to.
