International Women’s Day - 8th March

by Samantha Johnson

It’s that time of year again when women are celebrated internationally. This day serves as a reminder to every woman, regardless of age, ability, or race, that we are fearless, powerful, and impactful to the progress and future of society worldwide. These contributions add to our armour and our story.

My name is Samantha Johnson, and my story is a powerful tale of strength and perseverance in breaking down barriers and negative stereotypes. Through overcoming my challenges, I have been able to show that I can thrive and succeed in a society that is often not accommodating to people with learning difficulties and disabilities.

Although I have overcome so much, I still face challenges. However, my role as an Advocacy Coordinator for People Self Advocacy has allowed me to speak up for other women like me. Not only has this role given me purpose, but it has also allowed me to pass on the power of confidence and self-advocacy to other women so that they, too, can thrive.

As we celebrate women around the world and their great achievements, let us not forget to celebrate ourselves first. We must remember the importance of equality, inclusion, and support for all women, regardless of their abilities.

Today, I celebrate and honour the women who came before me and the women who continue to inspire me to be a better woman.

Happy International Women’s Day!
