People First (Self Advocacy) is working with the GLA to help them better understand the experiences of people with learning difficulties/disabilities in: 

  • Education
  • Employment support 
  • Work

We are running three workshops and three prep sessions for 20 people learning difficulties/disabilities.

People will be paid £50 per workshop.

The Inclusive Talent Strategy is part of a big plan that the Greater London Authority (GLA) have for London. 

This plan is called the London Growth Plan. 

The main parts of this plan are to:

  • Help people in London who do not earn enough money, to earn more money
  • Work towards net zero
  • Grow the economy
  • Grow our services in London that help us work with other countries. 

The Inclusive Talent Strategy explains what the GLA has said they will do between 2025 and 2029 to make it easier for everyone in London to access good work.

The strategy includes three groups of things the GLA has said they will do. 
These are:

1. The GLA will listen more to employers when they are making decisions about what training courses they will offer to people in London. 
This is so that the things people learn match what employers need their workers to know about.

2. The GLA will make it easier for people living in London to find out what training and jobs are available for them. This will include making sure information about training is given in more different places, including GP surgeries and advice centres like Citizens Advice. They will also offer more free training in English and computer skills.

3. The GLA will work to fix the problems that stop people from working. They will make sure there is more affordable housing and transport in London. 
They will work with employers to help them be more inclusive, through something called the ‘Good Work Standard’, which employers can apply for. 
They will help people understand their rights as an employee and how their employer should treat them.  

The main things the strategy says the GLA will do to help Disabled people to get good work includes:

  • Making sure they can get information about training from healthcare services like GP surgeries.
  • Asking employers to make some work experience places and apprenticeships only for young people with special educational needs (SEND).
  • Supporting Disabled People to understand their employment rights.
