Self Advocacy Matters
We know how important self-advocacy groups are for people with learning difficulties
For many, it is the first place where people see that their opinion matters and their voice is listened to. A self-advocacy group is a place to socialise and a place where members are treated as a person with opinions, desires, plans and rights.
People First offers support to other self-advocacy groups and organisations. This can be to develop and strengthen an existing group or set up a new group, and can include:
- How to set up a Management Committee
- How to be more user-led
- How to write a Big Picture Plan
- Making big decisions in an organisation
- Policy and campaigns
